I have a huge love for the fruit Kiwi. However, they are so hard to peel and eat that I tend to skip on it. It’s difficult to eat, messy, and not convenient on the go.
Did you know you can eat the skin and it tastes GOOD?! That’s right, just wash it up and take the little end off, then eat it like an apple! Now they’re so easy to eat, there’s no excuse not to eat them. Easy, less mess, and can eat them anywhere! Plus I honestly can say that the fuzzy skin is not one bit noticeable when you bite into it!
Seriously, Eat the skin!
Kiwi is a super healthy fruit to eat and by removing the peel you are taking away a lot of the nutrients! Eating the skin can triple the amount of fiber intake and by not peeling the fruit you preserve a lot of the vitamin C as well.
How can I chose the perfect Kiwi?
You want your kiwi to be a tad soft. I like to buy them while they are hard, let them ripen on my counter and then as they get soft I throw them in the fridge. They will last quite a while in the fridge, eliminating how quickly they go from slightly soft to mushy!
The benefit of eating Kiwi:
Vitamin C: one fruit has almost two and a half times the daily recommended vitamin C- to boost that immune system!
Vitamin E: a fat-free source for vitamin E, delivering antioxidants that will help lower your cholesterol and boost your immune system.
Fiber: two Kiwi’s have more fiber than a bowl of bran cereal-promoting regular digestion and lower cholesterol.
Potassium: one fruit has more potassium than a banana!
Antioxidants: a great source of antioxidants to reduce your risk of caner, heart disease, and stroke.
Magnesium: two Kiwi’s give you 30mg of magnesium which helps with nerve and muscle function as well as rising your energy level.
Lutein: Kiwi contains phytochemical lutein which protects your eyes as well as helps prevent age-related blindness.
Folate: nearly 10% of the recommended daily value of folate-protects the health of mother and baby during pregnancy as well as prevents birth defects.
Zinc: produces healthy hair, nails, teeth, and skin. Men benefit with a boost of testosterone!
Plus it’s zero fat and low-carb (glycemic index of 52).
Try it…you might just love the taste!
